Three percentage tools on one page: find a percent of a number, find what percent one number is of another, or find the increase or decrease between two numbers.
Multiply the number by the percent and divide by 100. For example, 20% of 150 = 150 x 20 / 100 = 30.
Divide X by Y and multiply by 100. For example, 30 is (30 / 150) x 100 = 20% of 150.
Subtract the old number from the new number, divide by the old number, and multiply by 100. For example, 100 to 150 is (150 - 100) / 100 x 100 = 50% increase.
Percent = (part / whole) x 100. All three tools on this page use this one formula in different directions.
If something rises from 20% to 25%, that is a 5 percentage-point rise — but a 25% increase relative to 20. The increase/decrease tool shows the relative percent.
Yes — shoppers use it for discounts (e.g. 25% off 800), and students use it for marks (e.g. 45 out of 60 = 75%).
