How Palworld breeding works

  1. Pick two parent Pals — one male, one female — and put them in a Breeding Farm (unlocked at Technology Level 19) with a Cake in the farm's storage.
  2. The game averages the parents' hidden CombiRank values: target = floor((Parent 1 rank + Parent 2 rank + 1) / 2).
  3. The egg hatches into the Pal whose CombiRank is closest to that target. Lower rank means a rarer, stronger Pal.
  4. Same-species pairs always give the same species, and fixed special combinations (like Relaxaurus + Sparkit = Relaxaurus Lux) override the formula.

Frequently asked questions

How does Palworld breeding work?

Every Pal has a hidden CombiRank value. When two Pals breed, the game averages their ranks and the egg hatches into the Pal whose rank is closest to that average. Same-species pairs always produce the same species, and a set of fixed special combinations override the formula.

What is the Palworld breeding formula?

Target rank = floor((Parent 1 rank + Parent 2 rank + 1) / 2). The offspring is the Pal with the CombiRank closest to that target. Ties break toward the higher rank, then the earlier Pal in the game's roster order.

Can I breed legendary Pals like Jetragon?

Legendary Pals have very low CombiRank values (Jetragon is 70), so normal averaging almost never reaches them. Most special Pals can only be bred from fixed parent pairs — use the reverse lookup on this page to find their exact recipes.

Why do two different parent pairs give the same offspring?

Because only the average rank matters. If two different pairs average to the same target, they produce the same child — element, size and level do not change the offspring species.

What are special breeding combinations?

Fixed parent pairs that ignore the rank formula, for example Relaxaurus + Sparkit = Relaxaurus Lux. This calculator checks those fixed pairs first, so special results are shown correctly.

Do parent level, IVs or passives change the offspring species?

No. The offspring species depends only on the two parents' species (through their CombiRank values and any special recipe). Level, IVs and passives affect the child's stats and skills, not which species hatches.
